Exciting Old-Hollywood news this Valentine’s Day: a film about Katharine Hepburn’s 25-year love affair with Spencer Tracy, who famously remained married throughout the relationship, is being developed for the screen. Variety reports that the project would chronicle the iconic couple’s entire romance—“from their meeting at MGM before making Woman of the Year in 1942 to Tracy’s death in 1967 after they worked on Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.”The pair, who co-starred in nine movies together, famously lived separately throughout their relationship. It was not until after Tracy’s wife died in 1983, that Hepburn publicly acknowledged the affair, even writing about it in her autobiography Me: Stories of My Life.

The script is currently being written by Revolution scribe and co-executive producer David Rambo. Neither a director nor lead actors have been selected yet for the picture, which is being developed by indie production companies Permut Presentations and Reunion Pictures, but producerLisa Richardson tells Variety that they are hoping to begin filming within the year. Moviegoers might remember that Hepburn and Tracy were portrayed once on the screen already, in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, but in supporting capacity by Cate Blanchett and Kevin O’Rourke.
