AUDREY HEPBURN
Audrey Hepburn was a British actress and humanitarian. She was recognized as a film and fashion icon, noticed by the American Film Institute as the third-greatest female screen legend from Classical Hollywood Cinema, and was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.
Hepburn was born as Audrey Kathleen Ruston in 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. With a love for ballet and being in the spotlight, Hepburn began performing as a chorus girl in a West End musical theatre production and then had minor appearances in several films. She starred in the romantic comedy, Roman Holiday, which caused her to rise to fame. For this single performance, she was the first actress to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award in a single year.
After Roman Holiday, she became a true icon that was loved by the public. Many admired her grace, royal-like manners, and appreciation for the simple things in life.

She then signed a seven-year contract with Paramount productions, starring in Sabrina, War and Peace, Love in the Afternoon, and showed the world her musical talents in Funny Face in 1957. Hepburn then starred in one of her most famous works in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s in which she played an eccentric and extroverted girl who falls in love with a struggling writer. The movie encapsulated her true acting abilities and of course, the iconic black dress we all know and love.
After the release of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Hepburn solidified her spot as a true American icon. She then decided to use her fame and money for good, beginning her humanitarian career in the 1988 by having her first field mission in Ethiopia, sending food and caring for over 500 starving children. She later toured Central America, Turkey, and Vietnam providing aid to those in need. Hepburn then received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of her work with UNICEF.
Hepburn’s renown and tireless efforts towards the aid and humanitarian rights for children is what truly stands her out amongst other stars in Hollywood. Her style, grace and sincere kindness towards others is what makes her a true icon.
