These Were Serena Van Der Woodsen’s Most Stylish ‘Gossip Girl’ Moments
With a Gossip Girl reboot confirmed, there’s really no time like the present to revisit the best looks worn by the show’s original leading lady, Serena van der Woodsen. While her frenemy Blair Waldorf was all Upper East Side princess, Serena — played by Blake Lively — had a more relaxed, bohemian wardrobe that reflected her rebellious side and thirst for adventure.
In season one, Serena’s laid-back take on schoolgirl style was enough to have us all attempting to rework a tie as a convincing skinny scarf, or swapping out teacher-approved loafers for knee-high boots. By the time Gossip Girl came to an end after six seasons in 2012, we were all familiar with the sort of high-hemline pieces that would have made it into Serena’s Louis Vuitton trunk.
Eric Daman, Gossip Girl’s costume designer, who is also on board for the reboot, has explained that much of the inspiration for Serena’s wardrobe came from our very own Kate Moss. “Initially for Serena, we were pulling lots of images of Kate Moss through the years. It was that amazing, nonchalant fashion look that feels like you’re totally not put together; you put on whatever’s next to the bed, and you look amazing,” he said in an interview. Indeed, re-watch an episode now and you’ll soon spot the supermodel’s signature tailored shorts, ballet pumps and vintage pieces in the New York socialite’s wardrobe.
As we await the return of Gossip Girl (and consider bingeing all 100-plus episodes of the original again), Miss Vogue spotlights Serena van der Woodsen’s most stylish moments.
