CHICAGO — Some artists are so personally magnetic, their biographies so engrossing, that their lives overshadow their art. It’s an old problem that becomes most acute when the artist has died young, succumbed to addiction or been confined to a psychiatric hospital — all plot points that make the nostrils of biopic producers quiver.
