Top 10 Best Spanish-Language Shakira Music Videos

Top 10 Best Spanish-Language Shakira Music Videos
WRITTEN BY: Eliza Baynes
Shakira's back with another hit! Let's revisit some of her best Spanish language songs! For this list, we'll be looking at videos for the Colombian singer's Spanish songs, including those for her duets with other artists. We'll be ranking them based on their popularity, visual appeal, and uniqueness. Songs that have the same video for both the English and the Spanish version, like “Suerte (Whenever, Wherever)”, will be excluded, since we've already covered them on another list.

#10: “Me Enamoré” (2017)

This song is about how Shakira fell in love with her partner, Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, and the video shows her being playful in various settings with a man just out of sight. Much of the story is shown from his perspective, as he drives her around in a jeep, has a food fight with her, and walks with her through a lush green forest. The vid’s fun, and it manages to capture the crazy, giddy happiness that comes with falling in love. It also ends on a sweet note as the mystery man is finally revealed to be (who else?) Piqué, giving us a glimpse at the handsome fellow who inspired the tune.

#9: “Inevitable” (1998)

This one’s a simple video, without gimmicks, that’s content to just show Shakira doing what she does best: perform for an audience. Looking every inch the rock star in her all-black outfit, including a leather top and platform boots, she sings under a spotlight on a dark stage, backed by a band and surrounded by cheering concert-goers. She teases us with just a hint of her famous belly dancing. She swings her naturally-raven hair around as she gets into the music. There are bubbles, glittering confetti, and even a triumphant “power pose” at the end. Really, what more do you need?

#8: “Que Me Quedes Tú” (2002)

Sometimes you just want to be with the one you love, and everything else fades into the background. Take Shakira, for example. In this music video about the filming of a video, she ignores the eager crew, preferring to write notes to her boyfriend and rock out on drums. She eventually allows them to start shooting, singing in front of an animated blue backdrop, before deciding she’s had enough and running off to meet her man, with the crew in hot pursuit. We love this one for its rebellious energy, its spirited chase scene, and its cute, movie-magic ending. That’s a wrap - finally!

#7: “La Bicicleta” (2016)

It’s like a love letter to their homeland. The track is a duet between Shakira and fellow Colombian singer Carlos Vives, and the accompanying video follows them as they visit their respective hometowns of Barranquilla and Santa Marta. After getting caught in a traffic jam, a whimsically-dressed Shaki escapes her vehicle and walks over the other cars, stopping when Vives offers her a bicycle. The pair then ride through the lovely landscape, and their biking is intercut with scenes of them dancing with a crowd and playing soccer on a beach. The entire video has a soft, dreamy look to it, giving it a nostalgic vibe that fills us with the warm fuzzies.

#6: “Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos” (1996)

Ever feel like you have to wear a mask and follow society’s strict rules instead of being yourself? Well apparently, so has Shakira, and judging by the loud toilet-flushing sound at the end of this scene, she isn’t a fan of it. The lyrics and the video both reference humanity’s biblical fall from grace and all the rules that we’ve created for ourselves since being kicked out of Paradise, such as women having to be married by a certain age. Despite its social commentary, the video remains lighthearted, and the surreal imagery, quick cuts, and occasional out-of-focus shot give it an artistic feel.

#5: “Ciega, Sordomuda” (1998)

Wait a minute, you’re not Shakira!!! You’re wearing the heck out of that metallic mini-dress, though. Starting with a playful twist that sees a woman who isn’t the actual singer mouthing the first lines of the song, this video is quite quirky and slightly surreal. The real Shakira gets arrested for reckless hula-hooping, thrown in jail, and set free by her handsome suitor. She drives the getaway car blindfolded, then hides out in a wig shop as a mannequin head. And just when she’s enjoying herself at the club, the creepy cops (who are actually robots) are back to spoil her fun. It’s a wild and entertaining ride that keeps us guessing.

#4: “No” (2005)

This black-and-white music video is set in an abandoned shipyard, where a quietly introspective Shakira sits cross-legged by the water as she sings about her heartbreak. Featuring backing vocals and guitar from Argentine singer Gustavo Cerati, the song is about ending an unhealthy relationship, as a woman asks her lover to leave and not come back. Although tears spill from her eyes, she seems to realize that it’s for the best, since she constructs a pair of giant butterfly wings that represent her newfound freedom. No elaborate sets or costumes, no belly dancing or rocking out - just a simple scene that effectively enhances the emotional power of the song’s lyrics.

#3: “Ojos Así” (1999)

If you’re not dancing by the end of this one, then we don’t want to know you! In this video for Shakira’s extremely catchy worldbeat hit, the singer performs on stage for an energetic and colorfully-dressed crowd. Rocking leather pants and fiery red locks, she shimmies and shakes her famous hips, occasionally with a coin scarf around them to emphasize their movements. She’s also shown solo with a snake painted on her arm, and we’re treated to several close-ups of her serpentine belly dancing. Everybody looks like they’re having a blast: the crowd, the band, and of course the star performer. How do we get an invite to this party?!?

#2: “Chantaje” (2016)

What do a pet pig, a pink wig, and a late-night grocery store run have in common? Why, Shakira, of course! In this video for her duet with Colombian singer Maluma, she combines her signature seductive dance moves with a touch of her trademark quirkiness. Leading the enchanted Maluma down a narrow hallway to a bar, she gets down on the dance floor before taking what has to be the world’s sultriest bathroom break - in the men’s room, no less. And despite the urinals in the background, it’s still sexy. With over two billion views on YouTube, this vid is so hot that by the end, even its star needs a cold shower! Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. “Sale el Sol” (2011) “Te Dejo Madrid” (2002) “Addicted to You” (2012)

#1: “La Tortura” (2005)

It’s a song about pain, but the video’s a pleasure to watch! Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz plays Shakira’s cheating former lover, who watches her from the window of another woman’s apartment. The lyrics are a dialogue between the exes: he makes excuses and wants her back, but she isn’t having it, since it was torture when he left her. The tables are turned now, though, as he’s the one being tortured by memories of their relationship. Haunting him like a dark spirit, Shaki puts her belly dance skills on full display while covered in black paint, looking powerful, sexy and slightly menacing all at once. It’s a memorable scene that totally makes the video.
