Aurora Borealis visible in south-central Pennsylvania
A rare sight was visible in the Pennsylvania sky Sunday night - the aurora borealis.
Also known as the northern lights, the colorful phenomenon is the result of a geomagnetic storm.
WGAL viewer Evan Cashman shared a vivid photo showing the view of the northern lights in East Berlin. You can see that in the video player above.
It's unusual to see the aurora borealis this far south. WGAL Meteorologist Ethan Huston said Sunday night presented special conditions. He said the National Weather Service Space Weather Prediction Center issued a "severe" geomagnetic storm warning.
The magnetic storm does have the potential to impact power grids and telecommunications, however it is becoming less intense.
