The Ministry of Magic Fact File Body Text

The Ministry of Magic is the London-based government headquarters for the British magical community. Accessed through an abandoned red telephone box the Ministry can be reached by dialling 62442 (which spells 'MAGIC' on an alphanumeric keypad). Departments include Magical Law Enforcement and the Department of Mysteries as well as the more pedestrian, Magical Transportation.

Rita Skeeter was a wizarding journalist best known for her poison pen articles for the [Daily Prophet](/fact-file/objects/the-daily-prophet) and her harsh biographies. Skeeter's Quick Quotes Quill was always working hard as she penned venomous articles about well known witches and wizards, many of which were concocted from a variety of lies, make-believe and conjecture. She utilised a number of underhand tactics in order to gain the insider information she was after, including becoming an illegal Animagus and the use of [Veritaserum](/fact-file/plants-and-potions/veritaserum).

Written, edited, printed and distributed by Xenophilius Lovegood, The Quibbler started as a fringe publication that focused on rumours and conspiracy theories, such as the existence of the Crumple-Horned Snorkack and [Sirius Black](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sirius-black)'s 'secret identity'. It gradually grew in popularity and reputability, however, as it continued to support [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter)'s account of the return of Lord Voldemort while [The Daily Prophet](/fact-file/objects/the-daily-prophet) remained in denial.

Arthur Weasley was the father of seven children, including [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter)'s best friend [Ron](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) and was married to [Molly](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/molly-weasley). While during the day he worked at [the Ministry of Magic](/fact-file/locations/the-ministry-of-magic), in his spare time Arthur liked to tinker with artefacts from the non-magical world, resulting in some not-quite 'legal' results - including a legendary [flying Ford Anglia](/fact-file/objects/the-flying-car)! The Daily Prophet was the UK's national wizarding newspaper where the community could catch up on the latest stories.

Like Muggle newspapers, the Daily Prophet had regular features, news and competitions, including a Grand Prize Galleon Draw - once won by [Arthur Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/arthur-weasley). Unlike Muggle newspapers, the publication came with magical, moving photography across its pages.

Although The Daily Prophet was by far the most popular newspaper, it had a tendency to be influenced by the [Ministry of Magic](/fact-file/locations/the-ministry-of-magic) at times, with journalists such as [Rita Skeeter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rita-skeeter) known to exaggerate her interviews with a Quick-Quotes Quill. Other publications, such as [The Quibbler](/fact-file/objects/the-quibbler), offered a more alternative approach to the wizarding world.

Phoenix Fact File Body Text

The phoenix is a rare but powerful magical bird, able to burst into flames and be reborn from the ashes. As a result, they can live to a very old age. Resplendent in crimson and gold, phoenixes have tails as long as a peacock with feathers that glow faintly in the dark. In the wild, phoenixes can be found on mountain peaks but they can also in rare cases, be domesticated, making very loyal pets. [Albus Dumbledore's](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) pet phoenix, [Fawkes](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fawkes) demonstrated these qualities along with the ability to cure injuries with his tears and to carry huge weights.

Azkaban Fact File Body Text

The island prison in the middle of the North Sea, Azkaban was a place of confinement for the most dangerous wizards and witches. Guarded by [Dementors](/fact-file/creatures/dementor), life at Azkaban was notoriously brutal with many of its inhabitants losing their minds over the course of their sentence. Many dark witches and wizards passed through Azkaban's gates, including [Bellatrix](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/bellatrix-lestrange) and Rodolphus Lestrange, but as we learnt, it was possible to break out.

Located behind [the Leaky Cauldron](/fact-file/locations/the-leaky-[cauldron](/fact-file/objects/cauldron)) pub, Diagon Alley was the main shopping street for the UK’s wizarding community. With its ancient buildings and cobbled streets, Diagon Alley was often a busy place, particularly before term started as [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) students rushed to get the books and equipment on their back-to-school lists. Shops such as Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions and Flourish and Botts sold everything from wizarding robes to cats, owls, [cauldrons](/fact-file/objects/cauldron) and quills, whilst [Ollivanders](/fact-file/locations/ollivanders) was the go-to place for finding the perfect [wand](/fact-file/objects/wand). The Alley was also home to [Gringotts](/fact-file/locations/gringotts) wizarding bank, and was connected to Knockturn Alley - a more sinister shopping street devoted to the Dark Arts.
