David Boreanaz just ruined our hopes and dreams for a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reunion
Good thing we were always Team Spike.
If Buffy the Vampire Slayer ever goes the Full House and Gilmore Girls route with a revival series, Angel actor David Boreanaz is definitively not on board. Because despite playing the character for 169 episodes of Buffy and Angel from 1997 to 2004, the current Bones star has no desire to return to the role. Ever.
“No, never; that’s done, see ya, next,” he told Parade earlier this week.
I have no problem with the cult audience, and I would totally get back into the genre, but I’m not a big reunion guy. I tend to like to go forward. I don’t like to go backward — except when I’ve got ice skates on my feet and I’m playing hockey.”

Though in all seriousness, Boreanaz’s feelings are totally valid. A lot of the revivals we’ve seen have paled in comparison to their originals, and we’d hate for anything subpar to change our fond feelings for the Buffy-verse.
Plus, as Spike actor James Marsters recently pointed out, it would be hard to explain 13-plus years of aging on characters who are supposed to be immortal vampires. And as Sarah Michelle Gellar herself added, half the magic of Buffy was its coverage of the characters’ “formative years” to begin with.
“I have always believed that what was so unique about the show was the use of horrors of those formative years,” Gellar told THR earlier this year. “With high school and college as a backdrop, we were able to address racism, identity, bullying, guilt, death, first love and heartbreak using the demons as metaphors for the demons we all experience. I am not sure how that translates into adulthood, although I am sure it could.”
So we’re totally down with Boreanaz never playing Angel again if that’s what is best for the series’ legacies and the actors themselves. Though we do wish he’d been a bit more Angel and a bit less Angelus when wording his answer to Parade‘s question.
