Claudio Bravo wants Chile to build on their showing in the 2014 World Cup by going even further at Copa América 2015.

La Roja knocked reigning champions Spain out of the tournament last summer with a 2-0 win in the group phase, but fell to hosts Brazil on penalties in the round of 16.

Arturo Vidal was among the Chile players struggling with fitness problems in Brazil, a development which still weighs on the mind of Bravo and his team.

“The World Cup left us bitter, because some players did not arrive in the best condition,” he said at a press conference.

“We want to demonstrate, as we did in Brazil 2014, that we are a very strong team. I think we can improve so that we do not lack what we lacked in Brazil, and go further.

“We are a team that works hard and knows their strengths and weaknesses, and continue to demonstrate on the pitch that we are a powerful team.”

The Roja captain was also delighted to be playing in front of his home fans, explaining that their support was an immeasurable source of pride.

“Playing in a tournament like the Copa in your country is a privilege,” he continued.

“We know we always have the support of the people in the Copa. We come with great joy and tremendous pride to wear this shirt.

“We are a source of happiness and oblivion for people, instead of worrying about news and problems in their lives.

Bravo also took the time to praise Luis Enrique and Jorge Sampaoli, his coaches at club and international level.

“Jorge Sampaoli and Luis Enrique are very detailed and hardworking, and I have been fortunate to have very good managers,” he said.

However, Bravo refuted the suggestion that Chile were in the midst of a golden generation of talent, maintaining that it was disrespectful to players that came before.

The Barcelona keeper preferred to turn his attention to the tournament opener against Ecuador on June 11.

“We do not like to be called the golden generation, because it would forget the greats who have been on the team,” he added.

“We are two days away from playing an important game and our focus is on that. Ecuador is a team that we cannot make errors against or give away set-pieces. We have worked on that.

Games against Mexico and Bolivia are also on the horizon as Chile look to seal progression from Group A.
