The battle for the title of best club in South America is heating up, and there are only a few squads remaining in the competition.

Starting with 38 clubs from CONMEBOL and Mexico, the Copa Libertadores is now in the quarterfinals of the knockout stage. However, any of the eight teams remaining are capable of winning it all.

There is plenty of action remaining in this prestigious tournament, so take a look at a preview of the remaining matches.

Atlético Mineiro vs. Tijuana

When: May 30

Time: 9 p.m.

Where: Belo Horizonte, Brazil

First Leg Result: Atlético Mineiro 2, Tijuana 2

Preview

Atlético Mineiro has clearly been the strongest club throughout the tournament. It earned the No. 1 seed in the knockout stage thanks to a dominant performance in Group 3.

While the defense has not been perfect, the offense has been incredible behind Diego Tardelli and Jô. These players make it tough for any defense to keep the squad off the scoreboard.

However, Tijuana proved in the first leg that it is capable of sticking with the Brazilian club by getting a 2-2 draw.

Still, it will take a lot to replicate this on the road, and the Mexican squad is likely to fall in this round.

Newell's Old Boys vs. Boca Juniors

When: May 29

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Where: Rosario, Argentina

First Leg Result: Newell's Old Boys 0, Boca Juniors 0

Preview

Neither of these Argentinian clubs were expected to advance past the first round of the knockout stage, but here they are.

Boca Juniors had an especially surprising aggregate victory over defending champions Corinthians. The club displayed strong defense and did just enough to hold on for a 2-1 win.

Although it displayed a similar effort to keep the match scoreless in the first leg, it is hard to imagine the squad continuing this run for much longer.

Newell's Old Boys were the best club in Argentina this season and should be able to advance with a home victory in this one.

Santa Fe vs. Real Garcilaso

When: May 28

Time: 9 p.m.

Where: Bogotá, Colombia

First Leg Result: Santa Fe 3, Real Garcilasco 1

Preview

Santa Fe barely survived the last round against Grêmio. The club needed a Wilder Medina goal in the 80th minute to advance due to more away goals.

Of course, the Real Garcilasco battle with Nacional was even closer as it took penalty kicks for the Peruvian squad to advance.

However, this round seems like it will be much easier for Santa Fe after getting out to a 3-1 lead before heading home. It will take a whole lot for Real Garcilasco to overcome this deficit, and it simply does not seem likely.

Santa Fe will be able to maintain possession for most of the match and move on to the semifinals.

Olimpia vs. Fluminense

When: May 29

Time: 9 p.m.

Where: Asunción, Paraguay

First Leg Result: Olimpia 0, Fluminense 0

Preview

Last year's Serie A champion, Fluminense, has displayed some of the best defense in the entire tournament. The club allowed only five goals in six preliminary matches, and then has posted two more clean sheets in the last three contests.

While the offense is lacking, the ability to keep the opponent off the scoreboard allows the squad to compete with anyone.

The question will be if this group can keep it up against the talented Fredy Bareiro and the rest of Olimpia. Considering the overall struggles on offense for Fluminense, one goal might be all it takes in this one.

Prediction

Santa Fe is the most likely club to advance after getting out to a 3-1 start. If this squad is able to hold on, it should face Olimpia in the semifinals, who is likely to do enough to get passed Fluminense at home.

On the top half of the bracket Atlético Mineiro has been an offensive force and should advance to meet Newell's Old Boys in the next round.

From there, the Brazilian club keeps up its great level of play to win the entire tournament by defeating Santa Fe in the finals.

With the amount of talent on the roster, it is tough to imagine anyone stopping the juggernaut.
