Through about one-quarter of the Serie A season, the best clubs are starting to separate themselves from the pack.

Week 10 of the season features some exciting matchups as each side attempts to jockey for position in the standings. However, those facing weaker opponents have to make sure they earn three points to keep up with their competition.

In the first day of action, Inter were unable to get that much-needed victory, and they will likely suffer in the table when the rest of the league competes on Wednesday and Thursday.

These games are highlighted by a battle between Napoli and Fiorentina that could make a big difference at the top of the standings.

Here is a look at the current table after Wednesday's action.

Tuesday's Results

Atalanta 1, Internazionale 1

Internazionale got off to a great start to the match when Ricardo Alvarez scored for the road team in the 16th minute. Rodrigo Palacio got the assist thanks to a headed ball put in perfect position for his teammate to score.

Unfortunately, that represented pretty much the last of the offensive effort for Inter in this match.

Atalanta earned the equalizer a short time later when Maximiliano Moralez crossed the ball for German Denis to head it beyond the keeper in the 25th minute.

From that point on, most of the match was played in the middle of the pitch. Inter held possession for the majority of the contest, but they could not move the ball into the final third and only ended with four shots on goal.

They still have not been defeated on the road this year with two wins and three draws in five matches. Still, it is important to earn three points when the opportunity presents itself, especially for a club trying to compete for a top-three spot.

For Atalanta, this is the first draw of the season after an inconsistent start to the year. They will hope that this solid result will bring on some steadiness with a relatively easy upcoming stretch of matches.

Wednesday's Results

Napoli prevailed Wednesday night to move within two points of AS Roma at the top of the Serie A table. It was a huge win for the Partenopei. Fiorentina were previously unbeaten in their previous four home matches and have lost just twice in 10 Serie A home fixtures.

Even more surprising than Napoli's win was the way they got it.

According to WhoScored, Viola had 69 percent of possession and seven more total shots. Napoli had just two shots on target, scoring with both. That's efficiency.

Jose Callejon opened the scoring in the 12th minute following a cross into the box from Gonzalo Higuain.

Giuseppe Rossi leveled the scoring following a foul in the box from Federico Fernandez. The Italian national team member slotted him the penalty into the bottom left corner.

Napoli went up, 2-1, following a goal from Dries Mertens in the 36th minute.

From then on, they allowed Fiorentina to control the game and ratchet up the defense in the final third. Possession doesn't mean anything if you can't make it count. The Viola midfield lacked that killer instinct close to goal, and as a result, Napoli were able to earn the three points.

Thursday's Result

AS Roma 1, Chievo Verona 0

Roma remain a perfect 10-for-10 on the season, beating Chievo Verona 1-0. With the win, Roma stays five points ahead of second-place Napoli.

It was a harder victory for the Giallorossi than most would have thought going in. Chievo had taken just four points out of a possible 27, and Roma are looking like one of the best clubs in Europe.

They had to wait 67 minutes to find the breakthrough, courtesy of Marco Borriello. The 31-year-old headed home a cross from Alessandro Florenzi.

Kevin Strootman and Daniele De Rossi in particular played very well. They controlled the center of midfield and didn't allow Chievo to get anything going on the counter.

And while those two did the grunt work, Miralem Pjanic was allowed to move forward and try to provide the killer through ball up to the Roma attack.

The clean sheet allows Roma to keep their sterling defensive record. They've now conceded just a single goal in their 10 Serie A matches.
