France beat Nigeria 2-0 in Brasilia to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Paul Pogba headed the French ahead after 79 minutes.

Joseph Yobo put through his own net in injury time to end the Africans' hopes.

The Super Eagles had the ball in the net in the opening period, but it was ruled out for offside against Emmanuel Emenike.

At the other end, Pogba was denied by a fine save from Vincent Enyeama.

Then right-back Mathieu Debuchy fired narrowly wide of the post.

Nigeria lost Ogenyi Onazi to injury in the second-half after this tackle from Blaise Matuidi, which earned him a yellow card.

Les Bleus came closest to breaking the deadlock when Victor Moses cleared off the line from Karim Benzema.

Didier Deschamps' side again went close in the final 15 minutes as Yohan Cabaye hit the crossbar.

However, the late goals mean France will face the winners of the match between Germany or Algeria in the last eight.
