Newcastle United have wrapped up the signing of defender Daryl Janmaat for a suggested fee of €7.5 million, it's emerged.

The Feyenoord figure had been linked with a move to Tyneside for some time, but after completing his duties with the Netherlands at the World Cup, Kristan Heneage confirmed the move:

Janmaat has put pen to paper on a six-year deal at St. James' Park and comes in as the successor to Mathieu Debuchy, whom Neil Cameron of Chronicle Live says has completed a £10 million move to Arsenal.

Alan Pardew has moved quickly to fill the void at right-back, and a player of Janmaat's quality for half the sum they received for Debuchy is a fine piece of business.

Squawka and OptaJohan show just how rounded the Dutchman has shown himself to be over the past year, featuring well at both club and international level:

Sky Sports Football continued with a look at his performance from the 2014 World Cup:

Janmaat follows countryman Siem de Jong and former Montpellier playmaker Remy Cabella as another high-profile signing in the northeast, with the Magpies hoping to improve upon their 10th-place Premier League finish last term.

It's a swift change in approach from the summer of 2013, which saw the loan signing of Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy become their only major move of the entire window.

Pardew is evidently eager to ensure this summer isn't as bereft of business, and the mid-season departure of Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain will have provided some funds for the club to make moves of their own.

Newcastle have also signed Jack Colback as a free transfer from local rivals Sunderland, as well as making the lower-profile acquisition of former Tenerife attacker Ayoze Perez.

Janmaat will now join up with his new teammates ahead of Newcastle's pre-season tour, taking them to New Zealand and Germany before coming back to four warm-up fixtures in England.
