Arsenal Transfer News: Juan Quintero Agent Claims Agreement, Latest on Porto Ace

One of Juan Quintero's agents claims a fee has been agreed ahead of the FC Porto star's potential move to Arsenal, while another indicates the deal is some way off.

Maria Elena Chavarro, the player's representative, tweeted the alleged deal on Thursday evening, via Simon Jones of the Daily Mail:

"Today @juanferquinte10 travelled to England to sign a contract with Arsenal who are paying 20m Euros (around £15.8m) to FCPorto, congratulations!"

Even so, one of Quintero's other agents indicates the Gunners will only capture the player if they trigger his buyout clause.

"There are clubs interested, there is much interest in the player, the clubs in Spain and England," said Ricardo Calleri, per Jamie Anderson of the Express. "But to leave would be one willing to pay the termination clause of the club."

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo were also said to have reported Quintero's sale is "not an option," translated by 101 Great Goals.

Quintero's proposed move would come as something of a surprise. He has spent one year in Portugal, but his willingness to switch clubs isn't uncommon for the 21-year-old's career. The developing talent has already represented four different teams in three different countries since 2008, enjoying spells at Envigado (Colombia), Atletico Nacional (Colombia) and Pescara (Italy) before heading to Liga Sagres in 2013.

The creative midfielder burst into the consciousness of many with his stunning performances through last year's Under-20 World Cup, where he scored the goal of the tournament with a 25-yard effort against El Salvador. He also netted two other stunning strikes, including a last-second free-kick against South Korea to keep Colombia in the competition.

Quintero's performances were met with lavish praise. Kubilay Turkyilmaz, FIFA's Ambassador for Fair Play at Turkey 2013, indicated the player "could go on to become a player on a par with (Lionel) Messi," per the governing body's website.

The player's continued progress saw him make Jose Pekerman's squad for the 2014 World Cup, where he also left a lasting impression, even after limited game time. Quintero scored what proved to be the winner when coming off the bench against Ivory Coast, racking up one start and two substitute appearances in Brazil, per WhoScored.com.

He made just four starts and 18 substitute displays during Porto's run to third last season, scoring a quartet of goals along the way. Arsenal fans should be extremely excited about a player who has proven he can already rip through opponents at the top level, but vitally, someone who has plenty of work to do before his potential is realised.

Quintero can control possession just behind the striker, or in a transitional team like the Gunners, may begin closer to the halfway line with a view to moving forward. He also featured in a wider role during the World Cup, but the starlet isn't lightning-quick, meaning he is more likely to play the ball than endlessly sprint beyond opponents.

Alongside the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, Quintero would receive the opportunity to improve the foundations of his game. He completed a pass success rate of 71.8 percent at the World Cup, a total he will need to sharpen if he is to become a first-team player at Arsenal, per WhoScored.com.

Arsene Wenger will be confident of improving Quintero's ability to link with teammates and will take the player on knowing he is far from the finished article. Considering the moments of magic he is already capable of, it seems the Emirates will play host to an individual who naturally slots into the team's technical style of play.

Quintero's arrival could see Santi Cazorla pushed out of the club, according to AS and via Samuel Stevens of the Independent.

It would be a major risk for Wenger to cash in on the Spaniard without replacing him with a player who is more used to the gruelling nature of Premier League and Champions League football. While Quintero possesses real quality, he is yet to take part in a full season of starts.

While confusion currently surrounds the deal, Arsenal will capture one of the sport's premium talents if a deal for Quintero can be struck. Wenger is the right manager to develop his game and will hope to keep the player in Arsenal's ranks for a long time.
