Liverpool's prospective free agent Glen Johnson could find himself lining up for Barcelona next year, according to reports in Spain.

Tom Olver of the Metro confirms the Catalan newspaper Sport believes the England international could be on his way to the Camp Nou as a replacement for the outgoing Dani Alves.

Alves and Johnson will both be out of contract at the end of the current campaign, and the addition of the Liverpool full-back would add cover for the expected loss of Alves.

Ian Doyle of The Liverpool Echo further elaborates on the breaking transfer news story, saying Johnson has already been "offered" to Barca, as the player looks for a new club.

Johnson has been unable to secure a deal with Brendan Rodgers, as his deal enters its final phase, and the 30-year-old is almost certain to be shown the door at Anfield.

However, Doyle also says Luis Enrique is "wary" of Johnson's inconsistent injury record from recent years, making him a less attractive capture for the Blaugrana.

The right-back has also been linked with a move to Roma, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, with Johnson's agent Jonathan Barnett confirming to Roma Press the player is looking at his future options:

He’s obviously looking for things at the moment. He’s looking at many clubs. Glen is obviously looking for somewhere where he can turn around his career. That’s the most important thing for him. Where he can play nicely under a good club that’s challenging for things. That is where he wants to be. At the moment there isn’t a time frame.

Johnson has lost his regular defensive place at Liverpool this season, featuring in just 14 Premier League games in 2014-15, per Squawka.com.

Johnson has not started an EPL match since December, and his days under Rodgers are now surely over.

The player joined Liverpool in 2009 for £17.5 million from Portsmouth, per Olver, and has often suffered criticism for his defensive ability, despite being an attacking force on the front foot.

Barca's style would suit Johnson, who likes to find himself in the wide attacking areas, but whether he is good enough for an elite European club with Champions League ambitions is debatable.
