Leicester City have signed Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler on a three-year deal.

The club confirmed the news on Wednesday, via their official website, with the 31-year-old signing for an undisclosed fee.

Leicester's Twitter feed posted the first pictures of Inler in the famous blue jersey:

Speaking with Foxes Player HD, the Swiss international expressed his delight that some longstanding negotiations have finally yielded a positive outcome, per the club's official website:

I’m very happy and proud to play here because we’ve been in discussions for a long time. I’ve spoken with the manager and I’m very happy to be here because it’s a nice team. I’ve watched them lots of times and I like them.

The manager was important for me, also the Director Jon Rudkin and the owners. For me the whole package was very positive because they wanted me and now I’ll give everything.

Inler is the Foxes' sixth signing of the summer following the acquisition of experienced campaigners such as Shinji Okazaki and Christian Fuchs.

The defensive midfielder, who captained Switzerland in their 2014 World Cup campaign, won 26 tackles and 27 aerial duels in his 19 Serie A appearances last season, according to Squawka.

The 31-year-old is also comfortable in possession, as WhoScored.com demonstrates:

As noted by Squawka, Inler uses his impressive passing to create chances for his team-mates from deep in midfield, making 18 key passes for the Partenopei last year.

Though Inler may not be an especially long-term acquisition, he will add much-needed experience to the Leicester squad in the wake of Esteban Cambiasso's departure.

Further, his ability to retrieve possession and his impressive distribution make him a direct replacement for the Argentinian's considerable contribution in midfield.

As the Foxes fight to emulate their survival exploits from the previous campaign, Inler's quality and experience will be vital in keeping them in the Premier League.
