Uruguay was the third best team in the Conmebol qualifiers for Qatar 2022, scoring a total of 28 points after eight wins, four draws and six defeats. That led the team to directly qualify to compete in its fourth consecutive World Cup.
This team, coached by Diego Alonso, has a mix of experience and youth in all lines, and with that they expect to put up a fight in search of the third title of the Garra Charrúa. They finished their preparation matches last September with a 1-0 loss to Iran and a 2-0 win over Canada, so their World Cup debut will also be their first match in two months.
