The central defender has not been the most trusted by Joachim Lowe in the World Cup after he failed to convince the manager to select him for their first game against Mexico.
The World Champions lost that game by one goal to nil and were at risk of exiting the World Cup after the group stages. Rudiger was brought on in the second game to replace Matt Hummels, who had picked up a injury in the loss to Mexico.
Despite a fine performance to help the Mannschaft win their second clash at the group stage against Sweden, he has failed to get into the starting 11 again.
Lowe dropped a five players in the clash with South Korea, of which Rudiger was part and now warms the bench for his side.
Jerome Boateng received a second yellow card in that second game and missed the crucial encounter with South Korea.
