Iranian forward's heartfelt message for Moroccan player who scored devastating own goal

Iran beat Morocco 1-0 to win its second Word Cup match ever (and first since 1998) on Friday, but it wasn’t an Iranian player who scored the game-winner. It was Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz who scored the heartbreaking own goal in the fifth minute of injury time.

While Iran was thrilled with the result, forward Reza Ghoochannejhad took a moment to console his opponent after celebrating. Ghoochannejhad wrote a heartfelt message for Bouhaddouz on Instagram, telling him to keep his head up.

Here’s the classy message from Ghoochannejhad:

@aziz_bouhaddouz I don’t know you personally but in life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Don’t let this own goal bring you down.
We are all professional sportsmen and this is a part of football. I am so happy and proud of my team and my country, but wanted to wish you also all the best
in your career. Reza. 🤲🏼
