CBR is Honda's supersport. The concept is represented by the number of "R "s at the end, including the CBR1000RR-R and CBR600RR, which also compete in races, and the CBR650R, a street sport.
In 2024, these three models are expected to be new models at the same time.
Will the new CB650R go from the old CBR1000RR style to the RR-R style?
Honda's CBR, equipped with a full cowl and pursuing sports performance, is a supersport with a lineup ranging from 150cc at the bottom to 1000cc at the top. It is expected that all CBRs in the large category will undergo a model change in 2024, and as the first model, the new CBR600RR was unveiled for the first time in the world at the Suzuka 8 Hours.
Although details of the new CBR600RR have not been announced, it will meet the 2020 emission regulations in Japan and will be available in matte black in addition to the existing Grand Prix Red. The styling has been changed to the same image as that of the CBR1000RR-R in 2020, and the 2024 CBR600RR follows suit.
The top-of-the-line CBR1000RR-R is also likely to undergo a model change in 2024, including a larger wing. Even so, the new CBR1000RR-R and the new CBR600RR will belong to the same design family, as their images are not expected to change significantly from the current style.
What is of interest is what is happening to the CBR650R, which is expected to undergo further styling changes with an electronically controlled clutch for the 2024 model year. The current model took on the image of the CBR1000RR (SC77) in 2019, but now it would be in order to match the RR-R as well as the CBR600RR.
There is also an image leader called CBR250RR
However, the CBR series, with displacements below the CBR400R (CBR500R overseas), has the CBR250RR (MC51) as its image leader. The MC51 style has already been around for seven years in its 2017 incarnation and has been retained in the redesigned 2023 CBR250RR.
Also, the CBR150R sold in Asia has just been reborn in the MC51 style for the 2021 model change, so this line will continue for the time being. Then, the two major trends in CBR styling will be the RR-R series and the MC51 series, and it would not be surprising if the CBR650R belongs to the MC51 series.
Mechanically, the CBR650R does not have a center ram air duct, so the MC51 series style is a natural choice. In any case, it will appear in a cooler, more modern style. We expect the CBR650R to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show (Japan Mobility Show) in October at the earliest.
