Despite concerns following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Sweden that secured England a place in the semi finals of World Cup 2018, Jordan Henderson is expected to be fully fit to take on Croatia on Wednesday.

Henderson limped off the pitch at the end of the last match, admitting to having strained an already tender hamstring, but reports out of the national team camp say he responded well to treatment and took part in today’s training session.

“Towards the last 20 minutes I just overstretched and I felt the hamstring a little bit,” the 28-year-old midfielder explained as he looked ahead to Wednesday and Croatia. “But it doesn’t feel too bad so, hopefully, it will be fine.”

Manager Gareth Southgate, meanwhile, suggested Henderson’s struggles were likely down to a general overexertion and tiredness, citing an “accumulation of fatigue” from the heat and busy World Cup schedule.

Jamie Vardy, also considered a doubt to be fit for Croatia, also reportedly took part in today’s training session, and so both he and Henderson appear almost certain now to be available for selection on Wednesday.
