Luka Modric's long term at Real Madrid could end after a dozen years in summer as Spanish news reports on Friday said the Le Liga leaders are no longer planning with the Croatian veteran.

Midfielder Modric, 38, came to Real in 2012 and has won five Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles and two Copa del Reys with them.

Sports papers Mundo Deportivo and AS as well as the Relevo portal reported that Real woul not offer the 2018 World Cup runner-up a contract renewal for the new season.

The reports said that Modric would move on to Saudi Arabia or the United States, as Real coach Carlo Ancelotti is preferring younger midfielders such as Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga.

Modric was a regular starter for years but has only started in 15 matches this term. In Tuesday's 1-0 win at RB Leipzig he was an unused substitute for the first time in a Champions League knock-out match when fully fit.

Also unclear is the future of Real's other long-time midfielder Toni Kroos of Germany. The 34-year-old has been at Real for a decade, and played more than Modric this season, but his contract is also expiring.
