Since July 2019, Héctor Moreno has been wearing the colours of Al-Gharafa in Qatar, earning a healthy wage packet while looking to arrive as fit and healthy as possible for the 2022 World Cup.

Naturally, each transfer window brings the possibility of Moreno’s return to Liga MX.

The 32-year-old centre-back has been overseas since leaving Pumas for AZ in 2008, featuring for a total of six teams in five different countries since his initial departure.

However, he will not be coming back anytime soon. In an interview with Generation Amazing, Moreno ruled out the possibility of leaving Qatar but left the door open to a potential Pumas return in the future.

“There were rumours that I was going back to Mexico, but I say it with all humility: I have not spoken with anyone to return in the near future.

“When the time comes I will decide.

“I respect América, Chivas, and all the teams in Liga MX. I can play for anyone, it is a competitive tournament, but for the moment I am happy in Qatar, and my family is happy in Doha.

“I’m not going to Mexico anytime soon.

“I have commented on it a couple of times, I was born at Pumas, I grew up at Pumas, and I would like to return to Pumas.

“At the end of the day it does not depend on me, it depends on many factors.

“I cannot say that I would never play in any team or in another, because that is a decision that does not depend on me.

“I could die from wanting to play for Pumas, but if the management or the coach does not want me, I cannot come back.”

Moreno is currently sitting on 104 caps for Mexico, five shy tying Alberto García-Aspe for 10th on Mexico’s all-time appearances list.
