Nearly as soon as midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero concluded his campaign with River Plate, he faced questions about his future.

On-loan from Porto, the Colombian said that he has not yet sorted out whether he’ll remain in the red and white of River Plate.

Quintero spoke to media following River’s 4-0 win over Kashima Antlers of Japan in the third-placed match of the Club World Cup.

Despite failing to reach the final of the competition to face Real Madrid, Quintero spoke with fondness of River’s recent Copa Libertadores victory.

“I am very happy with the result. We could not get to the final but today we proved that it wasn’t in vain and the result we earned at the end showed that we made a difference.”

“We had options, they also created chances that hit the crossbar. But we made the difference, we showcased our football. We were a little fresher today and that added to the result.”

While a couple bounces may have gone their way, River Plate rounded up the match with two goals in the final five minutes.

“We have had a great year, it was very positive, and the most important thing was that we achieved the victory,” Quintero added.

“Everyone wants to celebrate, it was an historic match that we won. We hope that people can live that party. In my case, I have to go to Colombia directly, but from there I am with the fans and only want to thank them.”

Regarding his future plans, Quintero left his options open about what he’ll do after his current loan deal expires on 31 December. The Argentine club reportedly negotiated a pre-arranged fee of €6 million for his transfer.

“At the right moment, we will talk about this topic. I am just grateful to the River Plate support, the president knows this, the manager and I will see what happens. It’s too uncertain.”

Will the 25-year-old stay in Argentina where he’s boasted one of the best seasons of his career or will he use that momentum to return to Europe?

“Today I am living day-to-day with River.”

Quintero is under contract at Porto through June 2021 but he has not featured for the Portuguese club since the 2014-15 campaign.
