Brad Davis Headed to the World Cup

ST. LOUIS – Former Billiken Brad Davis has been named by U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to the USA's 23-player roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer in Brazil.

Davis, who has earned 13 caps in his USMNT career, will be making his first appearance in the World Cup. His national team debut came in the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, when he started for the USA in a 4-1 victory over Cuba. Later against Panama, Davis came off the bench and eventually scored the game winner in a penalty-kick shootout. Most recently, he started against Korea on Feb. 1 and Mexico on April 2.

An All-American at Saint Louis in 2000 and 2001, Davis accumulated 62 points (21G, 20A) and led SLU to back-to-back Conference USA championships. He was a key member of the Billikens' 2001 NCAA quarterfinalist squad that posted an 18-2-0 record. Davis is a member of the Billiken Hall of Fame and the Billiken Half-Century Team.

Davis has enjoyed an illustrious professional career with the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer. He led the club to MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007. He is a six-time MLS All-Star and is the Dynamo's all-time leader in appearances and assists.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup will have an unprecedented Billiken connection. Vedad Ibisevic, who starred for the Billikens in 2003, is a member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina squad. Davis' and Ibisevic's inclusion in the World Cup means a former Billiken will be represented in the World Cup for a remarkable sixth straight tournament. Mike Sorber played in 1994, Brian McBride played in 1998, 2002 and 2006, and Sorber was an assistant coach for the USMNT in 2010.
