Fans turn on Manchester United star David De Gea after shock World Cup exit for Spain

The goalkeeper made just one save at the tournament in Russia in 390 minutes of football as the 2010 winners crashed out

Former Liverpool man Iago Aspas missed the vital penalty to send Spain crashing out of the World Cup.

The former Liverpool man, who has rebuilt his career at Celta Vigo, saw his spot kick saved by the experienced Igor Akinfeev to spark scenes of wild celebrations in Moscow.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is well-respected by fans of the Premier League for his weekly heroics - often saving the Red Devils.

But his time in Russia has been suspect, to say the least.

After a shaky start against Portugal where he dropped a clanger to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to score, the Spain No.1 never really recovered.

Of the seven shots he faced at the World Cup, he managed to save just one, with six goals scored against him.

And he failed to save any of the penalties he faced in the shootout defat to Russia.
