Chelsea complete Denis Zakaria loan as Marcos Alonso departs

Chelsea have completed the loan signing of Denis Zakaria from Juventus.

Zakaria, 25, has signed a deal until the end of the season for €3million plus €1million in add-ons, with Chelsea holding the option to make it permanent for €28million plus €5million in add-ons.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Chelsea and Juventus had agreed the loan deal, with the Switzerland international undergoing a deadline day medical in Turin.

On his move, Zakaria said: “I want to say hi to all the Chelsea fans. I’m very happy and proud to be a Blue and I cannot wait to see you soon at Stamford Bridge.”

Zakaria, a 6ft 3in central midfielder with 40 Switzerland caps, only joined Juventus in January, having agreed a deal to sign for the Italian side with his contract expiring at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly added: “Denis is a talented midfielder with lots of quality and skill. He will add depth and range to our squad this season, and we are looking forward to watching him play in Chelsea blue.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea confirmed that defender Marcos Alonso had left the club by mutual consent.

Alonso, 31, joined Chelsea in 2016 and was an integral part of their title-winning side under Antonio Conte. Alonso made 212 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 29 goals.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Alonso is set to sign a three-year deal with Barcelona.
