Germany duo Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have tested positive for COVID-19.

Neuer, 36, and Goretzka, 27, have been isolating from the rest of the German national team and will depart from the team hotel.

The German FA also announced that Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann has been called up as a replacement goalkeeper with “any further squad additions being announced later in the day”.

A statement on Wednesday read: “Leon Goretzka (27) and Manuel Neuer (36) tested positive for the Coronavirus on Wednesday morning.

“Both national players from FC Bayern Munchen were isolated, and will leave the team hotel.

“Due to a positive Coronavirus test within one of the players’ private circles, the medical team conducted a rapid antigen test on the whole national team.

“All members of the coaching staff and the team are required to test negative before travelling. Confirmed contacts of both players will be tested daily.”

Germany later called up Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold, while Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt left the camp with a non-COVID illness.

Germany are second in their Nations League group and face Hungary on Friday before travelling to Wembley Stadium to face England next Monday.

The 2014 World Cup champions are not the only side to have been disrupted during the recent international break, with France making a number of changes to their squad due to a host of injuries.

Lucas Digne was the latest France player to drop out of their national side for the Nations League matches on Wednesday. The Aston Villa left-back had himself been a late addition following injury to Theo Hernandez, who withdrew from the squad on Monday alongside captain Hugo Lloris.
