Some pen & ink pictures of Steven Gerrard. Scratchy dip pen for the detail, and small brush for the looser bits. Stevie may be getting on a bit, but I’ve drawn him in typical all action style. First one shooting for goal…

next a goal celebration…

and then an on the ball pose

Finally, here’s how I put them all together in a montage

Recently finished this portrait of LIVERPOOL & ENGLAND’s young striker RAHEEM STERLING. Siide-on view seemed to make an interesting composition, and also shows off Raheem’s fantastic hairstyle

I used pencil & charcoal for the black and white bits, & soft pastels for the rich colours and textured shading

This is the finished pic…

Thought I’d also try an alternative black & white version

Quiet for weeks, then two posts in a day! Continuing with the new drawing style, but a different kind of image, in this case a close up profile portrait of Stevie G in reflective mood.

gerrard1d

Stevie has a fairly recognizable profile, and once I got that right, I concentrated the detail on interesting facial areas – and ignored the back of his head!

As with the previous Balotelli pic, I also made a black and white version.

Been developing a new drawing style. I wanted strong colours and a spontaneous feel, and after a fair bit of messing around, finally ended up with something I’m happy with. So, here’s Super Mario in an explosive action pose…

balotelli1d

I used pencils, charcoal & pastels, for the rich colours and textured shading, and to create movement and drama.

balotelli1b

Then experimented with an alternative black & white version, which also works OK…

New Copa do Mundo design of Steven Gerrard in new England kit. Used big red blob of sky and stylised Estadio do Maracana shape as a framing device so Gerrard’s head/arms torso stand out. Not used too many colours, so whole design fits together.

copadomundogerrard2

Made sure Stevie’s eyes make contact with the viewer, and splattered some white blots to add to the action.

Main figure also breaks the edges of the background, as if bursting out of the picture – well, that was the idea! Framed up print below…

Two posts in one day – the medication must be working!

A couple of new pics to mark Luis Suarez & Eden Hazard’s PFA Player of the Year awards

Decided on single dynamic image of Suarez scoring that fantastic 40 yard volleyed goal against Norwich last December.

suarezpfablog

Made sure Luis’ eyes were focused on the ball..

suarezpfaetsy2

Slightly different approach for Hazard. A composite design, with a central jumping pose, and a couple of secondary images, Eden in dribbling action, and a sliding celebration

hazpfa

Tried to reflect each players personality & character not just facially, but also in their individual poses

Both these pics are now available at my ETSY PRINTSHOP

Another brushwork style pic…

Luis Suarez sliding goal celebration in front of the kop stand

suarezslide

I’ve always liked watercolour, and the random blotchy background textures

suarezslideprintdetail

Decided to leave off sponsors & kit logos to give a more timeless feel to the image.

This pic is now available from my etsy PRINTSHOP
