Fernando Silva’s iPad and iPhone Setup for Business and YouTube

In this series, we post a new interview with someone about what software they use on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. We do these interviews because not only are they fun, but a glimpse into what tools someone uses and how they use those tools can spark our imagination and give us an idea or insight into how we can do things better.

New setup interviews are posted every Monday; follow us on RSS or Twitter to stay up to date.

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Fernando Silva. By day, I work in New York City as an Account Executive for an HR Software Company. But what I truly love to do is run my tech YouTube channel. I am a huge advocate that the iPad Pro can be your one and only computer even if you are a power user. That is what my channel is all about. I do software update reviews, “day in the life” glimpses as an iPad user, iPad Pro accessory reviews, among other things. My community shares the same type of interests and are just a bunch of loyal iPad users trying to get the most out of their device.

What’s so unique about my channel is how I pride myself in doing everything I can to keep my iPad as my only computing device. I like to show people that it is possible to dump your traditional laptop or desktop and just use an iPad to do everything you need.

What iPhone do you have?

I use the iPhone 11 Pro Max in black with a Pitaka MagEZ case at all times for all of my accessories that work with the Pitaka Ecosystem.

Where can we find your wallpaper online?

Here is my current wallpaper.

What apps do you use the most, and why?

My most used apps are:

Which app could you not live without?

Has to be either YouTube or Spark. YouTube because I don’t know what I would do with all the extra time I would have with no YouTube consumption. With Spark, I’ve just fallen in love with the UI and functionality and would not want to go back to the native Mail app.

Which iPad do you have?

Fernando Silva's iPad Pro desk setup

I have the iPad Pro 12.9 inch, 256GB, Silver with a carbon fiber Dbrand skin on it. I also never use it without the Apple Smart Keyboard case and the Apple Pencil 2.

How are you using your iPad on a daily basis?

I use my iPad in so many ways. For my traditional job, I use the entire Microsoft suite for communication and collaboration with my team. When it comes to personal use, it does everything I would ever need it to do. The iPad is my media consumption device, my email device, and my note-taking computer, including filling out this interview.

I also use this iPad for my YouTube channel. I do everything from recording clips, to editing thumbnails, editing the actual videos that I post, and uploading directly to YouTube as well.

The iPad is my work machine, my YouTube machine, my video games device, and consume all my media from it. The cherry on top is that the hardware is just gorgeous.

My most used apps:

  • LumaFusion: This is my video editing app of choice. I think it brings a pro level editing experience to the iPad Pro and makes editing a breeze. My workflow is extremely simple. I record all of my clips using my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I then AirDrop all the footage to my iPad Pro. Once that is done, I begin to edit the footage using LumaFusion. Once I have edited the video by adding all my B-roll, music, and all my overlays, I then export the final video to my RAVPower external SSD. Then I just upload to YouTube using Safari.
  • Pixlr: Use this for my photo editing needs.
  • YouTube Studio: Need this to keep track of the channel and answer as many comments as possible.
  • shiftscreen: This allows me to display to an external monitor without having the letterboxing issue.
  • Call of Duty Mobile: Love playing this game with my friends online and using my Xbox controller on the iPad!
