After being an undisputed defender for various Liga MX clubs teams as well in Europe, Francisco J. Rodriguez will take a new opportunity that is outside of the norm of the soccer world.

At 38 years old, Francisco Javier Rodriguez has arguably been one of the most underrated defenders that Mexico have produced in the past two decades, and it comes to a shock to a lot of people that he has been left without a club going into the Clausura 2020. After making his debut with Chivas in 2002, Maza has succeeded with various clubs, and even took part of the national team of Mexico participating in three different World Cups, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. With that being said it comes as a surprise that the veteran defender Rodriguez has been left without a club since the Apertura 2019. Fans from America called for the defender to be signed, but the front office didn’t even give him consideration. Rodriguez with this new found free time has committed to still being on TV, but this time reality television. The reality show called Exatlon Estados Unidos to be exact.

Maza’s career has been vast from partaking with Chivas in (2002-2008) success in the Liga MX , then he took his skills to Europe with Dutch team PSV in (2008-2011), and the German club VfB Stuttgart in (2011-2012). Afterwords he made his return to Mexico with Club America in (2013-2014), Cruz Azul in (2014-2019) and most recently with Lobos BUAP, that recently didn’t participate in the Apertura 2019 after being bought out.

So it makes perfect sense for Rodriguez after such a great career to try a different adventure by going into the reality show, Exatlon Estados Unidos in which many ex soccer players have participated. Notably Alberto Medina the champion of Exatlon 2019, who contributed for Chivas and various clubs in Mexico, as well as for the National team of Mexico.

We wish Maza Rodriguez good luck in his new adventure, and hope he can return to first division soccer here soon, so the veteran can retire from team play with dignity.
