Top reviews from the United States

Received this guide today and already love it! Yes, as many have said, this guide essentially summarizes each of the major national parks. But that’s the guide’s intentions. Think of it as an “attention grabber” guide for each park.

It gives you a starting reference point to plan vacations by providing you essential park information. From there, it’s up to you to continue doing research to learn more about the park you wish to visit. If they went into full detail about each park, this book would easily be a 1000+ pages. That’s too big a travel guide to carry around for a guide that lists all the national parks.

All in all, I give this guide 5 stars for the simple fact that it DOES contain a lot of information despite what other reviews are stating. Lonely Planet has other park guides and I fully intend on purchasing the others when I plan to visit them when completing running races at each of the major parks in the United States.

Great book with good directions! Be forewarned - this does not have all of the parks in the US in it! has good reco's for the main parks, but I really wish that it had all of the parks included :(

Have several lonely planet books. Really like the fact that the trail descriptions accurately reflect the difficulty and distance. Well written and detailed.

I have several Lonely Planet books and I am kinda disappointed with this one. I excpected more from LP. Other guide books from LP give you insider tips where to go, things to do, lodging information. I was hoping that I would get more insight into the parks such as small hikes, where to gas up and stock up on groceries, and even some valuable campsite information. Everything in this book I can get from the National Park Service App and REI Parks App. This is just an overview of All the parks with little information limited to one to five pages depending on the park. I'll continue to buy the "country and city" guides but this book is just a waste of money with information available on several websites.

First time seeing this and it is okay. Gives some nice info but loses it in camping and small town info. Sorry. Earlier editions are better.

The best way to plan my trip
Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2021
We planned to go to 10-15 national parks this summer and thought this guide would be essential for us. We have used Lonely Planet guides before for many trips and have found it to be incredibly useful as a guide in terms of what to do, how to do it, and also historical background of places. However, with so many national parks, this one 'regular-size' guide just doesn't have enough space to give justice to being a guide to the parks. The book is beautiful and makes one interested in going to them...but I would say this serves better as inspiration rather than as a guide.
