Lionel Messi says he’s angry and hurt after missing penalty in Iceland draw

Lionel Messi said he’s angry and hurt after missing a penalty in Argentina’s 1-1 draw with Iceland at the World Cup on Saturday.

Sergio Aguero put Argentina ahead but Iceland equalised pretty quickly through Alfred Finnbogason.

Messi then had the perfect chance to win it for Argentina but saw his penalty saved as Jorge Sampaoli’s side were forced to settle for a frustrating draw.

Here’s Messi’s view after the game.

“We had a hard time creating chances. We’re going to go out there to beat Croatia. We were superior (to Iceland). We tried but it wasn’t to be. Missing the penalty hurt.

“Worried? No, I’m angry and it hurts because I missed the penalty. I feel responsible for not having the 3 points. It would have changed everything. We are calm.

“We don’t have to go crazy. We just started and we know it won’t be easy. It hurts because we deserved to win.”
