FIFA announced on Friday that the Club World Cup, which will bring together 32 teams in 2025, will be held in the United States. The decision was taken unanimously by the board of the International Football Federation. One year later, the United States will also host the World Cup, along with Canada and Mexico.
"The host country selection process took into account infrastructure and service requirements, as well as the broader strategic objectives of the tournament," FIFA said in a statement issued after its Council meeting held by videoconference.
Under the new format, twelve European teams will qualify for this Club World Cup in the United States, six for South America, four for CONCACAF (North, Central America and the Caribbean), four for Africa and four for Asia, with one place for Oceania and one for the tournament hosts.
FIFA confirmed three months ago that Real Madrid, Chelsea, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Al Hilal, Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Monterrey and Seattle Sounders are already qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup.
