Will the sporty bike soon be based on the 750 platform?

With the launch of its new CB750 Hornet and XL750 Transalp, Honda could make a big impact on the motorcycle market this year. The comparison between the roadster, which has just arrived in dealerships, and its main Japanese competitors showed that the competition has a lot to worry about.

Especially since Honda might not stop there and apply its platform to other market segments.

While the manufacturer had officially announced that it was working on the development of the Hornet 750, the Japanese press announced last summer that several other versions were in the works, starting with the Transalp, which was unveiled right after the roadster. The possibility of a neo-retro variant and a sporty bike was also mentioned.

Like Honda’s CB500 range, the choice of a sportbike would be logical, especially since the brand has always sold CBR versions of its CBs and vice versa. Why should this change? Moreover, the local press continues to go in this direction, notably by producing montages on the basis of the Hornet.

The technical base of the Hornet is already quite suitable for such a transformation, especially since Honda would only have to add a fairing and adjust the riding position to transform the CB750 into a CBR 750 R.

By keeping its 91.8 hp and 75 Nm twin, the Honda sportbike could also prove to be a formidable competitor in this segment, especially against the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Yamaha R7. The Japanese could even come to tease more high-end machines such as the Aprilia RS 660 with a price that we expect to be much more aggressive.

Again, if the manufacturer keeps the same pricing strategy as with its 500 and 650 cc models, the CBR 750 R would be positioned between 8,500 and 9,000 euros.
