ZURICH – Club America’s road at the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup became clearer Wednesday, when a draw for the 13th edition of the competition was held at the FIFA headquarters.

The 2015/16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League champion will face the yet to be determined AFC Champions League winner in the quarterfinals on December 11 in Osaka, Japan. If Club America can surmount that initial hurdle, a semifinal meeting with European giant Real Madrid will take place four days later in Yokohama, which will also be the venue for the final on December 18.

Club America has competed in the Club World Cup on two previous occasions, finishing fourth in 2006 and fifth last year.

The event will kick off on December 8 with the play-off for a spot in the quarterfinals.
