SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Costa Rican champion Saprissa announced Friday that it completed an agreement with Evian for the transfer of midfielder Yeltsin Tejeda, who signed a four-year contract with the French first division side.

Tejeda was one of Costa Rica’s stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, starting all five of the Ticos’ matches during their run to the quarterfinals in Brazil.

“Today begins a new stage in my life,” said Tejeda, who has played in seven World Cup qualifiers. “It is the moment to fight for my dreams. I’m very happy to come to Evian of France.”

The 22-year-old player started his professional career in 2011 with Saprissa and appeared in 110 matches with the club.

He made his national team debut on December 11, 2011, in a 1-1 draw at Cuba and was part of Costa Rica’s 2013 Copa Centroamericana-winning squad.

At the international youth level, Tejeda took part in the 2009 FIFA U-17 and 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cups.

Saprissa will host Nicaragua’s Real Esteli in CONCACAF Champions League game on August 26.
