SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Honduras international Marvin Chavez has signed with the San Antonio Scorpions, the North American Soccer club announced Thursday.
The 31-year-old midfielder, a former Major League Soccer (MLS) all-star, appeared twice for the Catrachos in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
"My main motivation [for coming to San Antonio] is my family," Chavez said, who has earned 42 caps, including eight in CONCACAF Gold Cup matches (four in 2009, four in 2013). "I'm very convinced that I came to a championship team. I feel that I am [already] part of the team and I came here to add to the team's objectives. I am very happy with the coaching staff, I am very happy with the president, and with Gordon Hartman, owner of the Scorpions."
Chavez played 112 MLS games with four different sides -- FC Dallas, San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids and last year with Chivas USA -- and scored 14 goals. He has two career goals in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, netting for FC Dallas against Mexico’s Pumas in 2011 and for the San Jose Earthquakes in a 2013 outing against the Montreal Impact.
His professional career started in 2005 with Victoria in his native Honduras, before joining Marathon three years later.
