The 23-year-old crossed the Atlantic with the idea of consolidating his ever-improving game, after winning a gold medal with El Tri's Olympic Team and earning a regular spot in Jose Manuel de la Torre's national team lineup.
"I'm very excited," Aquino said. "In Spain, no one gives you anything, in Mexico either. In any league in the world I don't think anyone gives you anything. And I think for me it will be very easy to adapt because I know what I'm in for."
Despite the fact that his new club, Villarreal, currently plays in the Second Division in Spain, the Mexican winger isn't lacking for motivation. He hopes to help lead the Yellow Submarine back to the heights of national and continental football which the club once enjoyed.
"This is a great club, despite what people might say," Aquino continued. "I'm proud to be able to play here and I never had any doubts, because I think a player should look for new challenges, since that's what makes you grow and get better. This challenge at Villarreal is very nice."
For his play thus far in Spain, Aquino's new teammates have praised the Mexican's work ethic in the training sessions in which the he has participated.
"On the field he's already showing what we expected of him," said Spaniard Juanma. "He's a hard to defend player and very fast, and gets free a lot on the wings. Without a doubt he looks very good, and I think he's going to add a lot to the team."
Aquino could debut as soon as this weekend, when Villarreal visits Hercules in Alicante.
After 25 rounds of the Spanish Second Division season the Yellow Submarine sits in seventh place, outside the promotion playoffs places on goal differential alone.
