MIAMI, Florida – This Thursday, the four teams from Concacaf participating in the 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica learned their group stage fate following the Draw held at the Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Host nation Costa Rica will kick off the tournament in Group A against Spain, Brazil and Australia. It is the Ticas’ third appearance in a U20 Women’s World Cup and their first since the 2014 edition.

Costa Rica will be attempting to reach the knockout round for the first time in their history.

Group B is where Mexico will begin their tournament versus New Zealand, Colombia and 2004, 2010 and 2014 U20 Women’s World Cup champions Germany.

El Tricolor are appearing in the tournament for the ninth time and will be out to surpass their previous best ever finish as quarterfinalists in 2010, 2012 and 2016.

Canada have been placed into Group C, which also will feature South Korea, Nigeria and France.

The Canadians are back in the tournament for the first time since 2016 in what will be their eighth appearance. Canada’s best finish came back in the 2002 edition when they finished as runners-up.

Rounding out the list of Concacaf teams in the U20 Women’s World Cup is reigning Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship winners United States in Group D with Ghana, Netherlands and 2018 winners Japan.

The U.S. are participating in the tournament for the 10th time and have three former titles under their belt, lifting the trophy in 2002, 2008 and 2012.
