NEW YORK -- Costa Rica international Ronald Matarrita is expected to be sidelined from four to six weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain.

The New York City FC defender, who had three assists in six Major League Soccer games, was injured during a training session Thursday.

If Matarrita's recovery goes according to schedule, he should be able to return prior to the next scheduled matchdays in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (June 8, home v Panama; June 13, home v Trinidad & Tobago).

On Sunday, Rodney Wallace -- another Costa Rica international -- was used at left back in Matarrita's place in a 2-1 loss to visiting Orlando City SC.
