'I feared my career was over', admits West Brom keeper Foster after freak foot injury left him unable to walk for eight weeks
Ben Foster has admitted that he feared for his career after suffering a freak foot injury in West Brom's second game of the season.
The former Manchester United keeper broke the navicular bone in his right foot - despite having nobody around him - against Everton at Goodison Park, leaving him unable to walk for eight weeks.
The 30-year-old underwent major surgery to fix the problem but that didn't stop him worrying about his future after one doctor predicted he would be out for at least a year if the operation was unsuccessful.

Freak incident: Foster suffered the injury after pushing off on his right foot at Goodison Park
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Foster said: 'It was the bone that takes most of the weight through the foot when you push off. For keepers, who are always on their toes, it’s a bad injury.
'I literally pushed and heard this click - and that was it.
'It was a horrible, horrible injury and it’s been a long, hard road back. If that injury happens to an outfield player, it is really touch and go whether they keep on playing.'
Back in action: Foster is set to face Everton again on Monday night, five months after suffering the injury
New man: Recently appointed West Brom boss Pepe Mel will take charge of his first game against Everton
Foster, who is preparing for Monday night's return fixture with the Toffees, is now seven games into his comeback for the relegation-threatened Baggies.
'The doctor said if the bone didn’t knit, we were looking at having to fuse it together – and a year out,' he said.
'I was very worried that I’d miss the whole season and if the operation didn’t work, even longer.'
