Rafael Marquez gets ready in an attempt to roll back the years for Mexico at the Copa America in Chile

  • Mexico partook in a training session at the La Pintana stadium on the outskirts of Santiago, Chile
  • Rafael Marquez is coming into the tournament off the back of a solid year in Italy's Serie A with Verona
  • The former Barcelona stalwart will be hoping his experience can help Miguel Herrera's men lift the trophy
  • The tournament begins on June 11 with the hosts taking on Ecuador

After previously admitting that he'd misjudged the arc in his career by turning down a move to join Juventus, instead moving to the MLS with New York Red Bulls, Rafael Marquez's career is back on track.

After a solid season with Serie A side Verona, whom he joined last August, the 36-year-old is now hoping he can lead Mexico to Copa America glory in Chile this month.

Mexico's first game of the tournament is against Bolivia on June 12 at the Estadio Sausalito in Vina del Mar on central Chile's Pacific coast.

Marquez played thirty times for the Mastini this season, helping the side to 13th position, assisting Luca Toni as the 38-year-old striker scored 22 goals in 38 league games to become the joint top scorer in the league with Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi.

And the defender will now be looking to utilise that form and experience, to help captain Andres Guardado, and eccentric manager Miguel Herrera lift the trophy.

'El Kaiser' took a short break from the 'El Tri' national side after the 2014 Brazil World Cup but is back in the set-up after his revitalisation in Italy.

Marquez became the first player to captain a team in four World Cups when he played in Mexico's opening match last year against Cameroon, and with the Copa America potentially being the last major competition that he partakes in, he'll be desperate to go out with a bang.
