Former Hull and Sunderland flop Jozy Altidore ruled out of Copa America... after suffering injury while missing a penalty
- Altidore, 26, was ruled out of action for six to eight weeks by his club
- The former Hull and Sunderland man has a history of hamstring issues
- Altidore was included in the United States preliminary 40-man squad
- Striker is yet to score in MLS this season after eight games
- Only scored two goals in 70 appearances for both Hull and Sunderland
United States striker Jozy Altidore is likely to miss the centenary Copa America in June after being ruled out of action for six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury.
The 26-year-old suffered the injury while taking a penalty kick - and missing - during a Major League Soccer game on Saturday against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Toronto FC man has failed to find the net in 720 minutes of football this season, assisting once.
With his side 2-1 down, Altidore stepped up to take the penalty won by former Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco in the 40th minute. However, his firm strike to the right was at a good height for Vancouver stopper David Ousted, who dived well to his left to make the save.
Following the penalty, Altidore was withdrawn moments later after limping and hobbling his way through the next few minutes - where scans later revealed another hamstring injury for the striker.

Altidore, who had been included in the United States' preliminary 40-man squad for the June 3-26 tournament, has a history of hamstring problems. In 2014 he suffered a hamstring pull in the first match of the World Cup against Ghana and missed the rest of the tournament.
US national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann must name his 23-man Copa America roster by Friday.
Other forwards included in the preliminary squad are former Fulham and Tottenham striker Clint Dempsey, 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, Ethan Finlay, Jordan Morris, Chris Wondolowski, Bobby Wood and Gyasi Zardes.
Despite good scoring records in North American and Dutch football, Altidore struggled in England's top flight, scoring only twice in 70 Premier League appearances for both Hull City and Sunderland.
