'Out of control': Real Madrid slammed in Spain over Julen Lopetegui axe as president Florentino Perez is accused of 'historic mistake' in selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus

The fallout of Julen Lopetegui's sacking as Real Madrid raged on in the Spanish papers on Tuesday morning, with the club coming in for fierce criticism.

Lopetegui was handed his P45 after a disastrous 5-1 El Clasico defeat on Sunday afternoon to compound a dreadful start to the season. 

That result left Real languishing in ninth, seven points behind Barcelona at the top of the table and trailing the likes of Levante and Real Valladolid.

Mundo Deportivo used the headline 'Fulminado' to describe the stormy situation, while Sport labelled the situation as 'out of control' 

AS focused on the new man in the Real Madrid hotseat, Santiago Solari, while Marca slammed the club for the stuffiness of their statement

The appointment of Lopetegui appeared doomed from the beginning, after he was sacked as Spain manager days before the start of the World Cup in the summer after accepting the role in what was a disastrous PR move for president Florentino Perez.

And the Real chief has been the focus of much condemnation for his reckless actions, which have lead the Champions League holders to this low point.

Sport hit the newsstands on Tuesday with the headline 'Out of Control', alongside a picture of Perez with his head in his hands.

Marca, however, were a lot more forthcoming with their put down of the situation.

They lambasted the 'stuffy' and 'embarrassing' statement released by the club, saying that the sacking had been carried out in a terrible way.

They slammed the clubs for their 'grotesque allusions' in pinning the blame on Lopetegui, despite boasting a team including eight Ballon d'Or nominees.

They also held the club to account for the lack of self-awareness in the mistakes they had made in creating the situation. 

The club statement released on Monday night read: 'The board understands that there is a great difference between the quality of the Real Madrid squad, that has eight players nominated for the Ballon d’Or, unprecedented in the history of the club, and the results achieved until now. We are grateful to Lopetegui and his staff and wish them the best in their professional career.'

Mundo Deportivo simply went with the headline 'Fulminado' - alluding to the stormy situation at the Bernabeu.

Perhaps not surprisingly the focus in the Real-leaning AS was more upbeat, focusing on the new man in the hotseat Santiago Solari.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has also refused to blame Lopetegui for the Spanish giants' current plight despite his sacking as manager on Monday evening.

Calderon insists current president Perez must shoulder the responsibility, having only given Lopetegui the job in the summer and sanctioned the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

'Unfortunately it's another one of the president's whims,' Calderon said in FourFourTwo. 'If he was the right man in June, only four months ago, he cannot be unfit now.

'He signed him just two days before the World Cup started, so damaging our national team and now he's sacking him. So that's the problem, I think he (Lopetegui) is not to be blamed.'

Calderon, who replaced Perez and served at the Bernabeu between 2006 and 2009 until Perez reclaimed the role, also slammed the decision to sell Ronaldo for £100million.

'That has been the main problem, to transfer Cristiano in June has been a historic mistake and we are paying for that now,' he added.
