Harry Kane had a hand in both goals as Tottenham came back to beat Everton 2-1 and earn a rare three points in the wake of a Europa League match.
The academy product’s run and parried shot created Christian Eriksen’s equaliser before he robbed Gareth Barry in the middle of the park to provide the platform for Roberto Soldado’s first half winner.
Prior to today, Tottenham had lost four of the six games that had followed midweek European action and it looked all too familiar when Kevin Mirallas spectacularly found the top corner to give Everton the lead after quarter of an hour.
But from that moment onwards, Spurs tempo was too much for Everton, and they drove time and time again at the gaping hole in front of the visitors’ back line.
Kane did just that five minutes after Mirallas’ opener and when his shot was poorly parried by Tim Howard, Eriksen was there with a dinked finish that had an element of good fortune.
For the second goal it was Aaron Lennon’s turn to run into space before slipping the ball to Soldado who stroked the ball confidently past Howard.

Both sides had penalty appeals waved away in the dying minutes, Everton appealing for a Federico Fazio handball before Muhamed Besic tangled with Kane at the other end.
The win sees Spurs overtake Everton in the Premier League table and move level on 20 points with rivals Arsenal.
KEY MOMENTS
9’ - DANGER FOR SPURS! Barkley does brilliantly to break free and run at the box. His shot is blocked but falls to Lukaku, whose weak shot can’t find a way past Hugo Lloris.
15’ - GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Everton. It's a spectacular strike from Mirallas to give Everton the lead. The corner is headed clear but the Belgian gives Soldado the slip and curls a right-footer into the top right corner.

21’ - GOAL! Tottenham 1-1 Everton. Spurs are level! Kane runs at the Everton defence and Howard can only parry his shot into the path of Eriksen, who scuffs the ball home.
34’ - JUST WIDE! Slower build-up play this time from the hosts and Eriksen lines up a shot on the edge of the box, which is deflected and flashes just wide of the post.
45+2’ - GOAL! Tottenham 2-1 Everton. Spurs take the lead on the stroke of half time! Barry is robbed of the ball by Kane and Lennon drives through the gaping hole and slips in Soldado, who fires past Howard.
58’ - JUST NEEDS A TOUCH! Eriksen puts a teasing ball across the six yard box but no one gambles and it sails right through.
72’ - CHANCE FOR EVERTON! Barkley turns on a sixpence and slips the ball through for Coleman. But again Lloris is lightning quick off his line and gets out to deflect the ball as the Irishman looks to chip it over him.
90’ - PENALTY APPEAL FOR EVERTON! Baines dinks in the free kick and the Everton men appeal as the ball hits Fazio's hand. There's not a lot he can do about it to be fair, but was his arm in an unnatural position?
90+2’ - PENALTY APPEAL FOR SPURS NOW! It looks like Besic has brought down Kane in the box, but replays show that Michael Oliver was right and that Kane had wrapped his leg around Besic.

TALKING POINT
An end to Spurs' Europa League hangover? Spurs have become famous for slumping in the aftermath of a European game. But on Sunday they turned the tables and it was Everton who looked a yard off the pace as the hosts played with a tempo they struggled to cope with. Such a commanding and energetic display will please boss Mauricio Pochettino but will it signal an end to the hangover?
