Osvaldo gives Juventus win over Roma with dramatic stoppage time goal

Dani Osvaldo's first Serie A goal for Juventus arrived in dramatic fashion at the Stadio Olimpico and rubbed salt into the wounds of his former employers Roma.

The Bianconeri, who were crowned champions last weekend, appeared content to hold Roma at arm's length during a bad-tempered encounter in the capital city.

Roma were determined to get some sort of revenge on Juve but instead watched in horror as Osvaldo - the Italy striker sold to Southampton in August and sent to Turin on loan in January - scored four minutes into stoppage time.

The 1-0 win saw Juve pull 14 points clear of the Giallorossi as they reached 99 points in Serie A for the first time.

Shortly before kick-off it was announced that Miralem Pjanic had signed a contract extension tying him to Roma until 2019 and the Bosnian was applauded by the home faithful when he tackled Fernando Llorente early on.

There were cheers in the 17th minute, too, as a focused Roma team celebrated drawing first blood when Vasilis Torosidis bundled the ball over the line.

The Greek was, however, denied his opener as the assistant referee ruled he had handled the ball before shooting.

Andrea Pirlo then drifted a wonderful cross into the Roma box for Llorente, yet stand-in keeper Lukasz Skorupski denied the Spaniard with an acrobatic save.

Marco Storari tipped Francesco Totti's searing effort over the bar with his fingertips before Radja Nainggolan powered the ball over the bar from Gervinho's slide-rule pass.

Roma were dominating the champions-elect but Juve nearly scored through Llorente, Mehdi Benatia making a crucial block as the former Athletic Bilbao striker targeted an unguarded net.

As half-time drew closer, Gervinho wasted a golden chance to send Roma into the dressing room with the lead, the Ivorian fluffing his lines from a one-on-one with Storari.

The Giallorossi continued to look dangerous after the break, with Torosodis soon forcing Storari into a low save.

Yet the second half was not one marked by too many exciting moments in front of goal. It was instead sullied by constant niggling off the ball that stopped either side from building momentum.

The scruffiest incident saw Pjanic react rather badly to being caught with an arm by Giorgio Chiellini by kicking the Juve defender, and he earned a yellow card for his troubles.

Storari was having an excellent evening and spared Juve's blushes with a smart double save late on.

After getting down to parry Nainggolan's attempt, he scrambled back to his feet to get a glove to Alessandro Florenzi's follow-up effort.

Roma's blinkered determination to grab a late winner left them vulnerable to a counter-attack and they were duly finished off by a dazzling team goal from Juve.

Paul Pogba rolled the ball down the right channel for Stephan Lichtsteiner, who pulled it back inside for the unmarked Osvaldo to curl home.

The 28-year-old had featured in nine league games for Juve without scoring before making his fateful return to the Olimpico.
