Cameroon captain <a href="https://supersport.com/football/africa-cup-of-nations/news/18a160f3-cae3-47b5-9d9e-bc05dff6bde1/cameroon-skipper-may-miss-out-on-cup-of-nations-after-training-injury" target="_blank">Vincent Aboubakar picked up an injury on Friday</a> and he could be forced to miss the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/africa-cup-of-nations/68zplepppndhl8bfdvgy9vgu1" target="_blank">2023 Africa Cup of Nations</a>. The 31-year-old striker was put under the microscope through scans on Saturday and a conclusive decision will be made after thorough assessments of the results.

WHAT HAPPENED

Should he be ruled out, Aboubakar will not be the only big-name player to sit out of the Afcon as Bayern Munich and Cameroon star Choupo Moting was left out of the squad by head coach Rigobert Song, in a decision that sent shockwaves across Cameroon. Meanwhile, Nigeria will have to do without Wilfred Ndidi of Leceister and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface who also had to pull out of the competition. Another notable absentee is South Africa's Lyle Foster, who suffered from mental illness but has since seemingly recovered as he has returned to action for Burnley in the English Premier League.
