Leeds wanted £5.2m World Cup ace Andres Guardado, is move more viable under Bielsa?

Leeds fans may have seen a familiar name in action for Mexico yesterday.

Last summer Leeds United were linked with a staggering move for Mexican international Andres Guardado.

The links came as as shock, with Spanish outlet El Gol Digital reporting the Whites were willing to spend £5.2 million on the versatile star.

With the Whites appointing big name boss Marcelo Bielsa, is a move suddenly more viable?

Bielsa’s name value alone is enough to make Guardado sit up and take notice of an offer which comes his way.

The Mexican is an ideal fit for Bielsa’s system, able to play at left-back, on the wing, or in central midfield, that versatility would bode well for the Argentine’s 3-3-1-3 formation of preference.

Coutning against a move is the fact Guardado is now 31, with Bielsa preferring younger players.

Yet his age is what makes a move to Leeds possible, with the player entering the back end of his career.

A tempting wage offer and ambitious project could be enough to land him… providing his star does not shine too brightly at the World Cup, and put him truly beyond Leeds’ reach.
