A transformative approach to football podcasting arrives with Financial Times columnist and football writer, Simon Kuper, and Mehreen Khan, Economics Editor at The Times of London. The duo's new podcast, Heroes & Humans, brought to life by the newly created media venture studio Immaterial, will provide in-depth audio-biographies of football's most notable figures. The show is produced by OneFinePlay. It will be released across platforms on March 21, empowered by a launch campaign in partnership with 433, the world’s largest social community for football.
Among the individuals to be portrayed in Heroes & Humans during the spring season are Kylian Mbappé, Mo Salah, Roman Abramovich, Megan Rapinoe, Hakan Şükür and Sir Alex Ferguson.
“I’ve spent 30 years interviewing and trying to understand these people. When podcasts came along, I thought: this is the perfect venue to present it all. And Mehreen is obviously the perfect co-host. The aim is to do a football podcast like no other,...

At the Cannes Film Festival, Italy’s 102 Distribution is selling thriller “Light Falls,” directed by Phedon Papamichael, the cinematographer on James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” Papamichael, who was Oscar nominated for handling the cinematography on Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” talks to Variety about shooting “Light Falls.”
The film tells the story of Clara, played by Elene Makharashvili, and Ella, played by Nini Nebieridze, two young lovers whose Greek island holiday spirals out of control when a tragic incident leads to an encounter with a trio of illegal Albanian immigrants. The thriller establishes the relationship of the young women before moving in a darker and more violent direction.
Papamichael told Variety: “The movie starts like an Eric Rohmer movie and ends like a Tarantino movie. It has a social political angle as well as playing like a thriller.

Soccer Aid for Unicef 2022, broadcast live and exclusively on ITV and Stv last week from the London Stadium, has raised a record-breaking £15,673,728 so far for Unicef’s vital work giving children around the world the care-free, play filled childhoods they are entitled to.
This record-breaking amount was raised thanks to the generous support of the UK public, ITV and Stv viewers, and The Power of Nutrition who have matched donations up to £4 million, meaning double the difference for children. This figure has smashed last year’s record total for money raised on the night.
The hotly anticipated match took place at the sold-out London Stadium with 54,410 fans in attendance, 10 years on from the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The match ended 4-1 on penalties to Soccer Aid World XI, taking them into the overall lead with 6-5 wins since the inaugural 2006 match. Rome, May 28 (Ians) Juventus announced the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri for a second stint on Friday having parted company with Andrea Pirlo after the Italian club failed to win the Serie A for the first time in 10 seasons.
The Turin club had won nine league titles in a row but could only finish fourth in Pirlo's sole campaign in charge as Inter Milan took the championship. Now Allegri, who won five Serie A titles from 2015 to 2019 before surprisingly being fired, has returned, Dpa reports.
"Massimiliano Allegri is the Juventus manager once more. Allegri finds a bench that he knows very well, a club that he loves and that loves him back, as today a new journey begins together, towards new goals," said Juventus in a statement.

Rome, May 20 (Ians) Federico Chiesa scored the decisive goal as Juventus sealed a record-extending 14th Coppa Italia title with a 2-1 win over Atalanta.
It has been a disappointing first season in charge for coach Andrea Pirlo, with the Bianconeri knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by Porto and their hopes of qualifying for next season's competition hanging by a thread ahead of the final round of Serie A fixtures this weekend.
And they looked set for more despair when Ruslan Malinovskiy cancelled out Dejan Kulusevski's fine strike before half-time, Dpa reports.
Juve stormed back in the second half, though, and sealed victory in their 20th Coppa Italia final thanks to Chiesa's composed finish with 17 minutes remaining.
Atalanta did most of the pressing in the early stages, with Duvan Zapata and Remo Freuler both flashing efforts narrowly wide of Gianluigi Buffon's goal.

Rome, March 3 (Ians) Cristiano Ronaldo marked his 600th league game with a low-strike as Juventus put on a second-half show to dominate Spezia 3-0 in Serie A.
Juventus, still struggling with injuries with Alvaro Morata only fit for the bench, hosted Spezia on Tuesday without Paulo Dybala, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado, and Arthur, while Matthijs de Ligt was ruled out in the warm-up with Gianluca Frabotta stepping in, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Bianconeri should have established the lead in the first half, but Federico Chiesa's opener in the ninth minute was ruled offside while Ronaldo's curler before the interval rattled the upright.
Juve's head coach Andrea Pirlo made tactical changes by throwing on Morata and Federico Bernardeschi on the hour mark, and the duo made an impact one minute later as Bernardeschi burst down the left and rolled a pass across, Morata got in front of...

Rome, Feb 28 (Ians) Cristiano Ronaldo's 19th Serie A goal for Juventus this season was not enough as Hellas Verona battled back to neutralize the Bianconeri for one point. Juventus made the trip to Bentegodi with a host of absentees, which meant head coach Andrea Pirlo had to call up several youngsters.
After a goalless first half on Saturday, Juve broke the deadlock straight after the interval, when Federico Chiesa moved into the box and squared for unmarked Ronaldo to finish with a daisy-cutter, Xinhua news reports.
Juve had the chance to double the lead on the hour mark, but Aaron Ramsey's rocket was denied by the goalkeeper.
Verona scored the equalizer in the 77th minute as Antonin Barak out-jumped Alex Sandro to steer in a header from close range.
The home side was close to turning the game around, as Darko Lazovic's attempt forced a one-handed save out of Wojciech Szczesny.

Rome, Dec 20 (Ians) Juventus temporarily cut its gap with leader AC Milan to one point in the ongoing Serie A as it enjoyed a 4-0 away victory to Parma, powered by a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo.
With Paulo Dybala injured, Andrea Pirlo on Saturday evening opted for Ronaldo to partner Alvaro Morata upfront, while Rodrigo Bentancur pulled the strings in the midfield, reports Xinhua news agency.
The Bianconeri was utterly dominant and broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute as Morata's dummy let Alex Sandro's pass roll for Dejan Kulusevski to finish with a daisy-cutter.
Juve made it 2-0 two minutes later as Morata floated a cross from the left, Ronaldo hung in the air for an age to steer his header into the net.
Ronaldo completed his brace right after the break as the Portuguese collected a pass from Morata, taking a few touches to finish with a left-footed strike.

Rio de Janeiro, Dec 12 (Ians) Brazil and Juventus midfielder Arthur said that he regrets refusing to play for Barcelona after securing a summer move to Juventus. Arthur signed with the Italian Serie A side in June as part of a deal that saw Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic join the Catalan club.
Despite being contracted to Barcelona until the end of the 2019-20 season in August, Arthur refused to rejoin his teammates for the last stage of the UEFA Champions League amid reports he had been offloaded against his will.
"I accept the criticism and in my opinion I made a mistake. I could have done things differently. But it was what was going through my head at the time," the 24-year-old midfielder said in an interview with Brazil's Globo news outlet, according to Xinhua news.
"If I could change some things, I think that I would. I am not ashamed to say that.

As Aida, Mallory Jansen has been hitting it out of the park in every episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Lmd story arc. Despite being an android, Aida feels more multifaceted than many of her human counterparts. She's both funny and frightening, charming yet chilling.
So, one can't be too surprised that the showrunners decided to bring their Mvp up for a second at bat, resulting in one of the already-excellent season's most powerful episodes yet.
On Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 Episode 13, Coulson and Mack tracked down the human woman who inspired Radcliffe's creation of Aida: his former colleague and ex-girlfriend, Agnes.
An Australian woman (conveniently allowing Jansen to use her real accent) with an inoperable brain tumor, Agnes is attempting to live out her last days in the glow of the Spanish sun, alone but in peace. However, Coulson is not content to let her.
I'll mark you down as shocked,...

Here’s a question for you… if Leonardo DiCaprio won an Academy Award and no-one was there to see it, would he still have won one?
This is a question that’s puzzled philosophers and general humanity for years. In fact, if it came to it and enough people signed one of those pointless petition things that appear all over social media, then British MP’s would have to debate why Dicap hasn’t won an Oscar in parliament. Despite general civilisation basically imploding from country to country in the current political climate, it’s highly likely that huge importance would be adhered to such a motion.
Because, let’s face it, our Leo is pretty adorable. As a human being, Leonardo DiCaprio is superior in every way to 99% of the global population, obviously not including Brad Pitt or Andrea Pirlo. At only 41 years old his career has...

After last years double winning, Champions League runners-up season, Juventus are looking to rebuild their side. With Andrea Pirlo leaving for the Mls, Carlos Tevez returning to Boca Juniors and Arturo Vidal on the verge of a move to Bayern Munich, some new faces will need to arrive for Massimiliano Allegri’s team. Having already been linked with the likes of Chelsea’s Oscar and Bayern’s World Cup winning Mario Gotze in this transfer window, a summer of huge spending could be on the cards.
But enough about this transfer window, we want to take a look at previous windows and the players that have been linked with a move to the Serie A side.
The most successful club in Italian football have won 58 trophies over their 117 year history, whilst also having some of the biggest names in football wear that Notts County inspired kit.

Jeremain Lens’ arrival has sparked much excitement on Wearside, mainly for his pace, internationally-proven ability, and goalscoring potential. However, one crucial detail has been largely overlooked regarding the Dutchman: he has instantly improved the team’s cool factor.
Sunderland have never been the coolest of clubs. They lack the youthful swagger of a club like Arsenal or Southampton, and their most impressive players in recent years never generated the excitement of a personality such as a Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Andrea Pirlo.
Niall Quinn, Kevin Phillips, Jordan Henderson and Lee Cattermole, although undoubtedly fantastic on the pitch, are all far less interesting than the stars of fellow Premier League teams in terms of sheer coolness. Sunderland’s current squad were recently pictured on a boat trip around San Francisco Bay, and resembled a gaggle of cheeky schoolboys as opposed to a team of professional footballers – one of the most envied professions in the world.

When Sunderland are linked to an Italian international star plying his trade for Juventus in the same all-conquering side as the iconic Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon, fans are allowed to get carried away.
Emanuele Giaccherini arrived on Wearside in 2013 during the whirlwind Paolo Di Canio ‘era’ for around £6 million, and captured the imagination of the locals. It was an exciting time, with expectations set high for the new Premier League season.
Of course, everybody knows that simply wasn’t the case. Jozy Altidore was about as much use as a three-legged chair, the master magician Cabral evaporated into thin air, Di Canio left in fury, and the whole club defaulted back to square one – and Giaccherini was hauled down with it.
The Italian was accustomed to being surrounded by quality. He was an amateur in the art of ‘struggling’, a talent mastered by Sunderland. Giaccherini...

Carlos Tevez is the latest star who could be leaving Turin following Juventus’ defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final, with reports suggesting a move to Boca Juniors is on the cards.
The Daily Mail claim the Argentine forward has told his club that he wants to return to his homeland this summer and sign for the team where it all began.
Tevez, who still has a year remaining on his contract with The Old Lady, scored 26 goals in 75 appearances and if a return were to occur, it would be likely that the striker would out-do that tally with ease having scored 20 in a Serie A winning campaign in 2014/2015.

William Bradley Pitt. In the maelstrom of human physical perfection, rarely has a single being elicited so much universal awe as this man. Whether you’re an admirer of his films, or would simply like him to hold you ever so gently, there’s a piece of the Brad Pitt pie for everyone. So to speak. For over twenty years he’s been fawned over by legions of male and female fans, propelling the swoonsome hunk of meat into Hollywood sex-lore. Whatever that is.
But strictly from a hetero-male perspective, it’s likely you fall into one of three categories: one is you can’t stand the man or his films. Which makes you a liar. Category two is kind of admiring him from afar, bullishly envious of his good looks and ability to make you feel inferior. The final, and probably most common category, is having confusing thoughts...

Liverpool are in Spain preparing for tonight’s daunting Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, knowing that a victory would arguably be the most unlikely triumph in the club’s history. Brendan Rodgers’ side are in extremely poor form, both domestically and in Europe, while Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded team are scoring goals for fun and are the current champions of Europe. They key question is: has there ever been a game the Reds were less likely to win since the competition’s inception in 1992?
The 2005 Champions League Final is probably a good place to start. AC Milan, managed by Ancelotti at the time, had a ridiculous amount of talent in their side, whether it be Cafu and Paolo Maldini at the back, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Kaka in midfield or the brilliant Andriy Shevchenko up front. Not many gave Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool much hope,...

An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary - which saw its first screening in cinemas nationwide this week - is an hour and a half of anecdotes and musings on the long-running simulation series. It might not appeal so much to non-Football Manager fans - there are a fair few references non-players won't get - but those who've been playing the series for decades will find a lot to love in it.
After watching the film and listening to series director Miles Jacobson do a Q&A, we managed to pick up on seven nuggets you likely didn't know about Football Manager.
1. Football Manager nearly bagged Alex McLeish a superstar
Alex and his son Jon talk about one thing we did know before: the younger McLeish recommended a player he'd discovered on Football Manager to his dad, back when he was managing Glasgow Rangers. This dismissed recommendation of a teenager...

With every World Cup that passes, new talents are unearthed, splashed over the back pages, and linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry with a couple of spare dimes to rub together. However, at the same time, there are always the select few, pinpointed at the start of June as the ‘members of the elite’, who ultimately fail to deliver on the world’s greatest platform.
Pundits and punters alike are usually left scratching their head in mid-July, wondering why certain ‘superstars’ have faltered when granted the biggest stage to showcase their undeniable talents.
In 2006, half of the Brazilian team were still daydreaming of the Copacabana beach, while the likes of Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi meandered aimlessly around South Africa for the best part of three weeks.

The wait is finally over, the World Cup is upon us and we’re already looking back on a goal packed first weekend in Brazil. We’re still to sit through a dreaded 0-0 draw and the goals have been flying in from all angles as the greatest show on Earth got underway in Sao Paolo last Thursday.
From the Samba boy’s opening triumph against Croatia to the defending champions thrashing at the hands of the Dutch, the first few group matches have certainly given supporters plenty to ponder. Pre tournament predictions have already been shredded as fans desperately check for odds on van Persie claiming the golden boot and a premature exit for Spain.
And what of England? Roy’s boys landed in the jungle of Manaus to face an Italian side that had passed them off the pitch two years ago.

Every four years we get a world cup and every four years Nike will go head to head with Adidas to see who can create the best advert ahead of one of the biggest commercial events in the world. Adidas have some catching up to do with this Nike advert which features multiple famous football players and one very famous Avengers. Wonder what the licence deal with Disney was to get Hulk in there?!
Anyway, enjoy the four minutes of this little beauty. Kudos Nike! (p.s. yes this post has pretty much nothing to do with movies but it’s darn cool!)
Featuring: Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Gerard Piqué, Gonzalo Higuaín, Mario Götze, Eden Hazard, Thiago Silva, Andrea Pirlo, David Luiz, Andrés Iniesta, Thibaut Courtois, and Tim Howard.

Premier League champions Manchester United could turn to Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik to solve their creative midfield crisis.
A report in Thursday’s Daily Star claims reports coming out of Italy suggest that Red Devils manager David Moyes is widening his search to replace the retired Paul Scholes.
Slovakia star Hamsik, 26, began the season in fine form for Napoli, scoring four times in the opening two Serie A matches. He has missed the last month through injury, however, but still managed a total of six goals in nine league starts for Rafa Benitez’s side.
Hamsik often plays in an advance midfield role, but can also play deeper and off the main striker. That versatility would be welcomed at Old Trafford by United fans.

Manchester United are set to battle Premier League rivals Chelsea for the services of Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, according to the Daily Star.
Veteran Alonso, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season and United manager David Moyes is keen to add some steel to his midfield.
The Red Devils are interested in the former Liverpool man, but Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out his sale in January, believing he has an important role to play for Los Blancos this season.
Speaking to Mediaset, Ancelotti said of Alonso:
“Xabi is a vital player for Madrid now that he’s recovered from injury. There are only two players like him in Europe. One is Pirlo and the other is Xabi.”
Alonso has also attracted interest from the continent, with reports claiming Juventus are interested, with Andrea Pirlo heading in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up an audacious bid for Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo, according to the Daily Mail.
Spurs have been alerted to growing uncertainty over the Italy veteran’s future at Juve and believe he could be tempted by one final career move to test himself in England or Spain.
The north London club have even followed up their interest by exploring the possibility of landing the legendary 34-year-old on a free contract at the end of the season.
These claims are backed up by former Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli.
A studio guest for Juventus’s 3-2 win over AC Milan, Vialli was asked for a comment on Pirlo’s contract stand-off with the Serie A champions.
He replied:
“I heard the rumours from London that there are contacts between Pirlo and Tottenham for next season.”
Viali did not expand on this brief statement, though is well placed to...

The Champions League is only days away and the question that is popping up, whether you’re watching TV or chatting at work or even sitting around at school is this… Who will be crowned the Champions of Europe this season?
The elite competition plays host to some of the biggest names the world has to offer, some of the biggest clubs and if course the money involved is unbelievable.
In this article I will consider five teams that I think will be challenging for the Champions League. Who is the dark horse, who are the favorites?
5. Juventus
Juventus have had two fantastic seasons. In the 2012/13 season Juventus went unbeaten. This past season again, saw them win the Serie A. Manager Antonio Conte has worked wonders with the Italian side since taking over in 2011, they play attractive football and have some massive names playing for the club.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out the prospect of swapping Juan Mata for Wayne Rooney in a possible part-exchange deal this summer, according to the Metro.
Mata’s future has been the subject of much speculation during the transfer window with reports suggesting the Spain international was included as part of Chelsea’s first offer for Rooney.
Willian’s expected move from Anzhi this week has also raised question marks over the 25-year-old’s future, just two seasons after joining the West London club from Valencia.
And when asked what would happen if United asked for Mata as part-exchange for Rooney, Mourinho was evasive on the topic.
“That’s hypothetical, because they didn’t ask.
“The two answers we got from Man United is ‘we don’t accept the bid’, ‘we’re not interested in selling the player’.
“That’s the only official contact we had with Man United.

A player picks up the ball near the halfway line and is only faced with one defender, he knows he’s substantially faster than him so he boots the ball a good 10 metres in front of himself and easily makes up the distance. He runs and lashes the ball from along the ground into the opposite corner of the goal, the keeper flaps the wrong way and watches helplessly as his net ripples away.
For anyone that plays football this happens about 10 times a season, but for one man from Wales it was the making of his career.
There’s no doubting that Gareth Bale has talent and it could easily be argued that he is the best in the world at his position right now, but there’s definitely no way he’s worth £100 million even in today’s market where Andy Carroll fetches £35,000,000 and James Milner is worth...

Confederations Cup hosts, Brazil, will play Italy at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador on Saturday 22nd June (20:00Pm UK time).
With Brazil and Italy both having picked up wins against Japan and Mexico, both nations have already qualified for the semi-finals, but the winner of today’s game will likely dodge World and European champions Spain and top Group A.
Whilst the victors will likely be getting the easier of semi-finals, the winners could be still face tough competition with Nigeria and Uruguay both fighting for a place in the last four with three points each.
Brazil’s Neymar has looked the most dangerous when attacking and the newly confirmed Barcelona youngster has really impressed in the tournament going on 15 solo runs and scoring two goals in as many games.
